in the 60's and 70's there are a number of contemporary painters created paintings on the new developments of modern china. li ke-ran is a famous one. i remember seeing his paintings with factories and electrical wirings. also luk yen -xiao famous for his mountain and water fall landscape with railways. i like this type of modern paintings depicting the recent chinese scenery instead of the traditional pagoda and farm / vilalge /and peasants. i have yet to see some paintings of airplanes and warships, space crafts or office/ school scenes with modern equipments such as computers.
Last summer I saw a co-exhibit that was sponsored by the International Center for Photography and the Asia Society.
It completely blew me away.
Contemporary Chinese art at the Asia Society was like nothing I'd seen before. And the photographs of "modern" China would have turned you upside down. It was the first time that I really thought to myself that the Chinese is becoming a first world country.
